The following abbreviations are ones that you might see on the team charts pages, with what the abbreviation stands for and, if deemed necessary, a short explanation of the term.

Engine Suppliers

ECR or Earnhardt-Childress: stands for Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engines, a former joint partnership between Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and Richard Childress Racing. DEI has since merged with Chip Ganassi Racing, forming Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing, which beginning in 2013 began using Hendrick Motorsports engines.

PME: Pro Motors Engines. Owned by Mark Smith, owner of Tri-Star Motorsports (#10, 14, 19, 44, 91 in the Nationwide Series) and part-owner of Humphrey-Smith Racing (#19, 91 in Cup).

TRD: Toyota Racing Development. At the end of the 2011 season, TRD and Joe Gibbs Racing merged their Cup engine building shops together, with JGR beginning to use TRD engines starting in 2012. Joe Gibbs Racing continues to build engines for both the Truck and Nationwide series.

Triad: Triad Racing Technologies. At the end of the 2008 season, Bill Davis sold his race team to a group of investors, who shut down the race team and began to supply engines to Toyota teams within NASCAR. They supply engines to the Swan Racing (#30) and JTG-Daugherty Racing (#47) teams in Cup as well as ThorSport Racing (#13, 88, 98) in Trucks.
